Forest Day - Shaping the Global Agenda for Forests & Climate Change
In parallel with UNFCCC COP13 Ayodya Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia Saturday, 8 December 2007, 09:00-18:00 hrs
Convened by the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), and co-hosted with ICRAF, Forest Day is an international forum on forests and climate change policies, with presentations and debates from local, national and global perspectives. ASB hosted two side events on themes related to Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD).
Session 1: Carbon emission abatement costs from reduced deforestation
In a new study, Opportunities for Avoided Deforestation with Sustainable Benefits (November 2007) researchers have built on previous ASB results and methods to produce estimates of the carbon emissions and economic returns to land associated with land use change in sites in Indonesia, Peru, Cameroon and the Philippines. Preliminary results from those studies, as well as studies of the abatement costs associated with community forestry, will be presented and the implications discussed.
Carbon emission abatement costs from reduced deforestation: Introduction.
Session 2: Estimating Carbon Stocks and Changes in Forested Landscapes
This side event aimed at reviewing methodological developments related to the challenges of reducing uncertainties in estimating country-wide forest carbon stocks and changes for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation. Four presentations addressed this objective from varied perspectives.
