Scenarios Training Course
| A discussion between an ASB researcher and farmers on Nicanor Pinedo's farm, Aguaytia, Ucayali |
Scenario building in the tropical forest margins will help decision makers in these dynamic areas to gain a better understanding of the potential impacts of tropical forest conversion. National and regional partners of the ASB consortium have underlined their need for such decision-making tools. In response, ASB, ICRAF, and the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) conducted a global training workshop on scenarios development. This workshop trained facilitators,so that participants could take their skills and disseminate them at local, regional, and national levels. Nineteen participants from 7 tropical countries (Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Cameroon) participated in this global scenarios training workshop in Chiang Mai in November 2004. This workshop is a key piece of ASB's effort to better understand the socio-economic and environmental dynamics at the forest margins, in order to develop consensus and manage conflicts at the local, national and regional levels. Funding: Netherlands Government. (Project leader: Sandra Velarde).
