The 7 ASB's impact pathways which frame our fundraising efforts are:

Knowledge generation and use

ASB major investment is in knowledge generation and dissemination to influence science, policy, private sector, and public awareness of tradeoffs between environment and development and thereby raise the level of awareness of real challenges, public debate about alternatives, and support for appropriate policy reform and research, development, and education investments.

New natural resource management practices

Participatory development, diffusion, and broad adoption of new natural resource management practices, including improved germplasm, technological innovations, and institutional initiatives that improve rural livelihoods while conserving biodiversity and essential environmental services

Better governance

Policy research in support of better governance, including correcting policy failures, supporting appropriate policy initiatives, and identifying workable institutional reforms to clarify and secure  property rights and resource access, in order to reduce poverty, promote national development, and conserve nature.

Appropriate incentives

Global market transformation to create appropriate incentives and correct market failures so that rural people are rewarded for nurturing their land and forests

Organizational learning and change

Development and diffusion of new organizational learning and change processes that link integrative science with policy and practice in the search for better approaches to poverty reduction, natural resource management, and rainforest conservation

Strengthening partner institutions

Training and other investments to strengthen capacity of ASB partners to lead and sustain their own programs of integrated assessment, research, development, communication, education and action for poverty reduction, natural resource management, and rainforest conservation. 

Investing in people

Support to education and other investments in young people so that the next generation has the skills and options to choose a better future for themselves and the planet.

The ASB Medium Term Plan 2006-8 (ASB MTP) uses the 7 impact pathways mentioned above.

The ASB Medium Term Plan 2008-2010 (ASB MTP) builds upon past success, addresses the recommendations of the EPMR, and gives particular attention on the challenges of avoiding deforestation with sustainable benefits.
