AbstractThe relative importance of forests in the global carbon cycle has been debated over the past 20 years with several estimates of the contribution to the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide. Currently there is general agreement, based on land use change data and atmospheric data, that the tropics are a net source of C to the atmosphere.
