| Abstract | DURING the period o Marsh, 2000 to April 2001, a nematode survey in pastures WAS Conducted in nine farms Marandu Growing grass), in the State of Acre, Brazilwith The Death of Grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu) A total of 65 composite soiland roots Were Collected samples from the rhizosphere of Marandu grass, 26 of Which Were from healthy stumps, 24 from 15 from Declining and dead stumps. Three genera and five species of nematodes Identified in Their Decreasing Frequencies of ocurrences Were: Aphelenchoides subtenuis (96.9%), Ditylenchus terricolus (92.2%), Tylenchus (92.2%), Pratylenchus zeae (60.9%), Aphelenchus avenae (26.6%) Helicotylenchus dihystera (18.7%), Meloidogyne (6.2%) and Criconemella (4.7%). Free-living nematodes Were present in 100% of the samples. Population density of plant parasitic nematodes in-samples were extremely low and the results Obtained Suggest That plant-parasitic nematodes in Encountered Such Low Population Density May Not Be cause of the death of Marandu grass in the State of Acre, Brazil. This is the first report of nematodes associated with Marandu grass from the State of Acre, Brazil. |
