AbstractValuable genetic resources are disappearing trees of many rural communities in the Peruvian Amazon, limiting the economic development of farmers. The International Center for Research in Agroforestry is working with rural communities to increase productivity and long-term sustainability of its forests and thus enabling them to conserve tree genetic resources. This paper describes some principles of tree domestication and shows how researchers work closely with farmers to select improved planting materials, reduce the risk of poor tree adaptation, produce and supply of planting materials of high quality and increase participatory tree domestication.
