The nine chapters discuss: cattle and development of the Amazon; ecology of the Amazon; agricultural land-uses in the Amazon; economic valuation of forests; extent of deforestation; cattle as a cause of deforestation; cattle ranching systems in the Amazon; economics of cattle ranching in the Amazon; and sustainable cattle production in the Amazon.
