| Abstract | This study was conducted with farmers from Rondonia, Brazil, and included trees in coffee plantations in the State. The social and economical factors are more important for farmers than the biophysical, what stimulates them to seek new technologies, which will enable them to have a more productive and low -cost crop. The most important limitation found was the lack of seed, and inadequate tree density used by farmers. Different types of coffee plantations with tress were identified; they are based in the differences composition of the species and the intensity of management of the coffee plantation. The monocrops coffee plantation have better production than the association coffee x trees, but the farmers' research emphasizes on the wood trees, because the prices in the market are higher. |
