This study was conducted in Acre, which has an area of 153,149.9 km2, using the Soil Genesys Map of the State in a 1:1,000,000, scale as the basis for the analysis. The analysis of potential risk of death of pastures of B.brizantha for the total area of the State was done using the data processing program Arc View 2.0. The actual risk of pasture death in the deforested areas of Southeast Acre was also analyzed, based on data of 1996, using the program Arc Info. The results show that the State of Acre present: a) 71,8% the area with soils with high risk; b) 8,6% of the area with medium risk; and, c) 19,6% of the area with soils with low risk, if planted with this forage grass. Analyzing the actual risk of pasture death in the deforested areas of Southeast Acre, where it is concentrated the highest percentage of the established pastures, it can be observed that: a) 27% are areas of high risk; b) 23% present medium risk; and, c) 50% are areas of low risk, if the forage species planted is B. brizantha. The results of this study lead to the conclusion that there is an urgent need to implement policies aimed at reclaiming the areas already affected by this problem, as well as avoiding degradation of this grass species in remaining areas of pastures still productive. If efficient measures are no implemented in the short to medium term, in the next few years, there will be an increase in the pressures to clear new areas of forest for pasture establishment and in the use of fire to burn the degraded areas in Acre.</style>
</record></records></xml>
