This research investigated agroforestry systems models for areas of low fertility soils. The experimental area is located in the state of Rondônia, western of Brazilian Amazon region, in a clayey oxisol. The following treatments were tested in the experiment: 1) brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa) x cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum); 2) Cordia alliodora x cupuaçu; 3) peach palm (Bactris gasipaes) x cupuaçu; 4) brazil nut; 5) cordia and 6) peach palm. Fruit production, timber growth, exportation, and immobilization of nutrients, and nutrient cycling were determined. From the results of this study, brazil nut appears as a good option to associate with cupuaçu in low fertility soils; chemical fertilization must be considered when associating cordia wood or peach palm with cupuaçu; brazil nut x cupuaçu
system litter production represented a nutrient source for cupuaçu fruit production; association did not affected Brazil nut aerial biomass, while cordia wood was influenced. </style>
</record></records></xml>
