MILESTONES AND DEADLINES                                                                                                            

31st December: ASB BNPP Project Phase II is complete -- Happy New Year!. 

15 December (Monday) Deadline for BNPP manuscripts [T.Tomich 11/21/2003]. Final draft of two scientific papers (ready to be submitted to journals for review) [former deadline 1st Dec].

2-3 December: Policybriefing and workshop: Tropical Forests, Biodiversity, and Hydrology: BBL Dec 2 (Mekong Basin) ; BBL/Workshop Dec 3 (forests and water flows) [K. Chomitz 11/21/2003].

1 December: submission of Final Technical Reports to K.Chomitz (one each for Activity 1 and Activity 2) [sent by T.Tomich 11/17/2003]

- Technical Reports: Introduction, methods, materials/data, procedures to be adapted from Implementation Protocols+ Results, discussion, conclusions plus various maps, figures, and appendices. 

8 October: second draft of two (or more) scientific papers

8 Sept: first draft of two (or more) scientific papers (one from each activity team).

  • first policy brief -- process started in July 2003, based on Phase I and other ASB results with first draft ready for discussion by 9 Sept and reviewed and ready for printing by 1 December 2003.

    • ASB/BNPP policybrief #1 revised draft: TPT will do this week and circulate early next week [T.Tomich 11/17/2003]. 

  • second policy brief -- process to start in September based on discussion of first drafts of scientific papers 9-11 Sept; draft ready for review by 1 December 2003

    • ASB/BNPP policybrief #2 first draft expected from Green Ink science writer by 19 Nov; revision led by TPT (with input from you) by 27 Nov [T.Tomich 11/17/2003]. 

  • technical notes that will be developed into policybriefs in 2004: TPT will prepare for discussion during our meetings week of 1 December. [T.Tomich 11/17/2003]. 

  • zero order drafts of five policybriefs -- prepared in December 2002 and revised in January 2003

  • Policy briefing in the Hague: meeting in the Hague on 4 June for initial contacts and arrangements; contact to set date for policy briefing by end September; policybriefing in the Hague (2) at time agreed by Netherlands hosts. 

  • Last week of August, Nairobi, MvN, TPT, SV in Nairobi. 

  • third overall meeting (emphasis in Activity 1): Prague, 11-12 Oct 2003. Implementations protocols were revised. [MvN and JR didn't participate]

  • Mid-Sept 2003, Thailand: MvN, Jeff Richey, David T.

  • Policy briefing in The Hague (2) replaced by Policybriefing in Nairobi during AGM03 of the CGIAR (end of October) as requested by Dutch partners. Participants: Thomas Tomich, Meine van Noordwijk, Sandra Velarde, Dagmar Timmer; Dr Leen Boer, Head, Research Division, and Ms. Mariana Wongtschowski, Biodiversity Officer, Environment & Development Department.  Dr. Boer expressed interest in the applicability of the state-of-the-art hydrological models used in BNPP to The Netherlands. [see explanatory document].

  • 10 Oct 2003, The Hague: TPT, MvN, others (will propose briefing for Dutch sponsors).

  • 8-12 Dec (approx): MvN, TPT, others – AGU in San Francisco plus time to work in Seattle and/or DC and/or New Hampshire [Cancelled, see last bullet.]

  • 15-17 Dec (one day): suggestions from Ken for format for WB briefing  [Cancelled, see next.]
